Strong Second Half Lifts DePauw to Third Straight Win

DePauw used a 13-2 run in the second half to stretch its lead to 13 on the way to a 67-48 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference victory over visiting Millsaps.

The Tigers improved to 9-6 overall and 4-2 in the SCAC with their third straight win, while the Majors dropped to 7-7 overall and 2-4 in the conference.

DePauw led by as many as eight in the first half at 23-15 before Millsaps scored eight straight to even the count at 23-23. The Tigers closed the half with a 6-2 run to take a 29-25 lead at the break.

Millsaps opened the second half with a bucket to trim DePauw's lead to two, but the Tigers pushed the margin to eight at 35-27 with six straight points. The Majors countered with a bucket before Tommy Weakley nailed a three, Drew Wills hit a pair of free throws and Ryan Russell scored a layup to extend DePauw's lead to 42-29 with 10:22 left.

The Majors briefly closed the gap to nine, but a 13-1 run gave DePauw a 60-39 advantage with just over three minutes remaining.

Sean Haseley led DePauw with 14 points followed by Weakley with 13. Michael Wilkison and Russell added 11 each. Russell grabbed a team-high six rebounds and Ross Simpson dished out six assists.

Nick Cortese led Millsaps with 12 points, while LV Sumler added 10 points and a game-high seven rebounds.

DePauw shot 45.1 percent for the game including 50 percent in the first half and the Tigers knocked down 9-of-24 three-pointers. Millsaps connected on 41.5 percent from the floor. The Tigers held a 30-24 edge on the boards and totaled just nine turnovers.

The Tigers host Hendrix on Sunday at 2 p.m., while Millsaps travels to Centre.
