The Bulldogs of Yale University shot 50 percent (29-58) from the field, including 8-of-22 from 3-point range, to defeat the Baruch Bearcats, 85-57, in a non-conference contest played on Saturday afternoon at the John J. Lee Amphitheater in New Haven, Connecticut.
The visiting Bearcats kept the game competitive early with a jumper by Lionel Hilaire to trail 30-24 with 4:13 left in the opening half, but the Bulldogs (7-7) ended the half with a 9-2 run for a 39-26 halftime advantage.
Tammer Faridconnected on a 3-pointer to begin the second half to cut the deficit to 39-29, but Yale out-scored the Bearcats 46-31 during the entire second half to record their second consecutive victory.
Farid led the Bearcats with 14 points (3-6, 3fg), while Lionel Hilairescored 11 points and Chris Beauchamphad 10 points. The team also received solid contributions off the bench from Mickey Abbatiello(3-5 fg) and Calvin Jurewicz-Johnson(4-5 fg) with nine points each.
Greg Mangano, a 6-foot-10 junior center, led Yale with a double-double of 18 points (6-8 fg) and 11 rebounds in 21 minutes of action. Brian Katz scored 16 points on 3-of-5 shooting from 3-point range.
Baruch (8-6, 3-0 CUNYAC) will return to action on Wednesday, January 12, with a first place battle in the CUNYAC North Division standings against Lehman College (8-6, 3-0 CUNYAC) in the Bronx. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:00 pm.
