Macalester's long and frustrating MIAC losing streak finally came to an end Wednesday night in Collegeville as the Scots knocked off St. John's 90-81 for their first conference victory since Jan. 30, 2008. Macalester snaps a 52-game MIAC skid and 26-game overall losing streak to deliver second-year head coach Tim Whittle his first league triumph.

The Scots took charge from the outset, scoring the game's first eight points, and never trailed. A 14-2 run midway through the opening period put Mac on top 28-11, and the Scots led by 18-points at the intermission at 44-26.

The Macalester lead was in double digits throughout the second half until the Johnnies got to within eight points with :47 left. There wasn't enough time, however, to stage the comeback.

Macalester shot 53% on the night, and made 11-of-19 tries from three-point range.

Pierce Peters (So., Glenwood, Minn. / Minnewaska Area) and Justin Wasik (Fy., Park Ridge, Ill. / Maine South) led the way for the victorious Scots, combining to go 8-for-12 on three-pointers. Peters led the way with 22 points to go along with five assists and three steals, while Wasik added 17 points.  Wasik was 5-for-7 from beyond the arc.

Andy Bowman (So., Perry, Kan. / Perry-Lacompton) led the way in the paint, grabbing a team-high 13 rebounds.

Three Scots joined Peters and Wasik in double figures. Kyle Hamblett (Sr., Paris, France / American School of Paris) contributed 13 points and five assists, Holden Bigler-Johnson (Sr., Austin, Tex. / Anderson) scored 11 points and Colin Keeley (Sr., Kildeer, Ill. / Stevenson) added 10.

Macalester had assists on 20 of its 28 baskets.

Aaron Burtzel paced the Johnnies with 28 points to go along with 13 boards, four assists and four steals. Andy Burns added 20 points.

The Scots look to begin an MIAC win streak Saturday (Jan. 8) when they host Hamline at 3 p.m.
