Wooster Escapes with 79-77 Victory Over Baruch

The Baruch Bearcats lost a heart-breaking contest to #1-ranked Wooster College of Ohio, 79-77, on Sunday afternoon at the Bahamas House Shootout in Daytona Beach, Florida.

Arki Wisnuhad an outstanding game for the Bearcats with a team-high 18 points in 18 minutes off the bench to give the #1-ranked Fighting Scots (13-0) all they could handle in a game that featured 14 ties and 12 lead changes.

The Bearcats (6-5) had a four-point advantage with two minutes remaining, but the Fighting Scots rallied to take a two point lead late in the game.

The Bearcats had the final shot, but could not connect to suffer their second competitive loss of the season to a team ranked in the Top Six of the highly-respected D3hoops.com poll (other loss was to #6 Middlebury, 63-60, on Nov. 19).

Baruch shot 47 percent (27-58) the entire game, including a solid 69 percent (9-13) during the second half, to almost pull off the major upset against an undefeated opponent that had won all their games this season by an average of 18 points.

Both teams took care of the basketball (Wooster 10 turnovers, Baruch 9), and shot the ball well from three-point range (Baruch 10-22, Wooster 11-21).

Ian Franks (nine rebounds) and Justin Hallowell (7-10 3fg) led Wooster with 25 points each, while Nathan Balch finished with 11 points.

Wisnu (10-12 FT) led Baruch with 18 points, while
Lionel Hilairerecorded 17 points and six assists. Chris Beauchamp(three steals) and Sean Loftus(6-8 fg) finished with 13 points each.

Baruch will return to action and resume their CUNYAC schedule on Wednesday, January 5, with a contest at John Jay College of Criminal Justice. Tip off at the nicknamed Doghouse is scheduled for 7:00 pm.

Wooster will return to action on Saturday, January 8 with a conference contest at Wabash scheduled for 2:00 pm.
