WILLIAM PATERSON DOMINATES THE GLASS IN 66-56 VICTORY OVER THE CITY COLLEGE OF NEW YORK

The City College of New York men's basketball team (2-8 Overall, 0-2 CUNYAC) dropped its eighth consecutive contest, falling to the Pioneers of William Paterson University (7-4 Overall, 0-2 NJAC) by a score of 66-56 in a matinee contest played at CCNY's Nat Holman Gymnasium in Upper Manhattan. The Beavers have not picked up a victory since defeating Yeshiva University back on the 18th of November.

Leading the way for William Paterson in the 10-point triumph was Paul Siljee as he scored 18 points, connecting on five of his eight attempts from downtown and snatching nine rebounds as well. Gabriel Paul was perfect from the charity stripe, hitting on all six of his attempts there and dropping in 19 points while grabbing seven rebounds, and Joey Castro connected on his only two field goal attempts of the afternoon while also nailing five of six from the line to equate 11 points while snatching five rebounds and dishing four assists.

Despite the loss for the Beavers of CCNY, Vince Roberts provided a spark off of the bench for his team, playing 26 minutes and connecting on three treys and contributing nine points, five rebounds, and three steals. Xavier Gonzalez also played well off of the bench for his team, scoring a team-high 12 points. Matas Rascius hit on four of his eight attempts from the floor and finished with nine points, seven rebounds, three blocks, and two assists.

The story of the game was told on the glass, where William Paterson University dominated, grabbing 45 rebounds compared to 26 for the Beavers. The Pioneers snatched 16 boards on the offensive glass compared to just seven for City College.

For the game, William Paterson connected on 41.2 percent of their attempts from the floor (21-51), while CCNY hit on 36 percent of theirs (18-50). The Pioneers held a slight assist edge, tallying 16 to the Beavers' 13, and CCNY held a slim advantage in the steal category, recording 13 to William Paterson's 11. The Beavers slightly won the turnover battle as well, committing 18 miscues while the Pioneers committed 19.

The Beavers will return to action on Saturday – New Years Day – as the team participates in the Catholic University Tournament in Washington, DC. CCNY's opponent will be Catholic University at 4:00pm, and City College will then take on either Southern Maine or Rivier College in either the consolation or championship game the following day.
