Second half push puts Stout over Lakeland

Erik Olson scored five points over the first minute of the second half to erase a four-point deficit for UW-Stout and the Blue Devils used an 8-1 run moments later to power their way to an 84-74 win over Lakeland College in the consolation game of the St. Norbert Nicolet National Bank Holiday Tournament Thursday.

Trailing 39-35 coming out of the intermission, Olson drained a 3-pointer, then stole the ball and went in for the lay-up moments later to give Stout a 40-39 lead.

The teams' played back-and-forth over the next few minutes before Eric Hostetter ignited an 8-1 run at the 17-minute mark and Stout (6-5) led the rest of the way out. Alex Oman, Jerrod Buchholtz and Aaron Jenny (Fr, New London, Minn) all contributed a bucket during the run.

The Muskies several times narrowed the gap to one point, but Stout always had the answer. Steve Pax dropped in a 3-pointer, Jordan Nelson hit a basket and Jake Polk hit a runner in the paint to keep Stout in the lead.

Hostetter led all players with 18. Oman and Buchholtz each scored 13 points, and Olson and Pax each finished with 10 points. Stout controlled the boards with a 46-41 advantage and Hostetter led all players with nine rebounds.

Lakeland got 14 points from Justin Ward. Bobby Komorowski had 13 points and Josh Regal finished with 12 points.
