MARYVILLE,  Tenn. – Eryk Watson's game-high 23 points led Maryville College past visiting Guilford College, 74-60, Saturday in a nonconference men's basketball game.

Watson scored 11 points and teammate Dustin Brown added eight in a decisive first half that saw the Scots (5-6) open a 41-19 halftime lead. A Watson three-pointer midway through the period opened a 19-15 Scots' edge and triggered a 25-4 half-ending run. Maryville made seven first-half three-pointers and shot over 46 percent from the floor, while Guilford (5-5) managed less than 30 percent field-goal shooting and made only one of seven three-point attempts.

Maryville's Cory Cheek opened the second-half scoring with another three-pointer for the Scots' largest lead of the game, 44-19, with 19:16 to play. Guilford cut the deficit to eight with 5:23 left in regulation, but drew no closer.

Watson, who shot five-for-eight from three-point range, led four Scots in double-figure scoring. Maverick Willet scored 14 points and Milton Stanley added 12 points and a team-high seven rebounds off the bench. Brown finished with 10 points. The Scots made 26-of-36 free throws compared to Guilford's nine-for-12 shooting from the line.

Josh Pittman paced the Quakers with 17 points, 14 in the second half. Tobi Akinsola notched his second double-double of the year with 15 points and a game-high 10 boards. Guilford enjoyed a 40-34 rebounding advantage, but could not overcome 20 turnovers that led to 26 Maryville points.

Guilford returns to action Dec. 29 at Manchester College in North Manchester, Ind.
