ST. PETER, Minn. - Gustavus Adolphus College overcame a 10-point second half deficit to top St. Olaf 74-66 in an MIAC men's basketball game on Monday night to give the visiting Oles their first loss of 2010-11.

Phil Wirtjes had 26 points to lead the Gusties while Tucker Sheley had a career-best 25 points for Oles in the loss.

St. Olaf (6-1, 1-1 MIAC) led by six at the half and opened the second frame with back-to-back buckets. The Gusties gnawed away at the Ole advantage and took their first lead of the second half on Wirtjes 3-pointer with 2:54 left. St. Olaf countered with a Bobby Fong three on the next possession, but Gustavus wnet on a 9-0 run on a Seth Anderson 3-point play and six straight free throws.

Fong finished with 12 points while Stu Neville had 15 and eight rebounds in the loss.

Anderson had 13 and Dan Schmidtknect 10 and eight assists, against no turnovers, for Gustavus.

The loss denied what would have been the Oles' first 7-0 start since the 1941-42 season.

St. Olaf hosts the University of St. Thomas on Wednesday night at 7:30 p.m.
