Montclair State Rolls Past Rutgers-Camden for Fifth Straight Win, 81-56

Montclair, NJ (12/4/10) – Senior guard Rodney Freeney (Piscataway, NJ / Piscataway) scored 15 points in just 18 minutes of action as Montclair State jumped out to an early 10-point lead and rolled to its fifth straight victory, 81-56 over Rutgers-Camden in a New Jersey Athletic Conference men's basketball matchup at the Panzer Athletic Center on Saturday afternoon.

Junior forward Andrew August (Bridgewater, NJ / Bridgewater-Raritan) and senior guard Tom Bonard (Westfield, NJ / Westfield) each added 11 points as the Red Hawks moved to 5-1 on the season, 2-0 in the NJAC.

Freshman guard Kyle Bowman (Camden, NJ / Collingswood) netted 12 points off the bench while Eric Goode (Newark, NJ / University) added 11 as the Scarlet Raptors fell to 0-4 on the year, 0-2 in the conference.

The Red Hawks raced out to a 14-4 advantage in the game's first six minutes with Freeney contributing four of his 12 first-half points. Montclair State, which led the entire contest, used runs of 13 and 12 straight points to open its biggest margin of the half at 29-10 with 5:02 to play on a putback by Sean Young (Scotch Plains, NJ / SP-Fanwood).

Montclair State led 41-20 at the break as it would be the closest the Scarlet Raptors would get the rest of the way.

August added seven rebounds and three assists while Tyrone Prewitt (Trenton, NJ / Trenton Central) and Sean Oguinnoiki (Edison, NJ / Edison) each netted seven points off the bench. Young finished with six points, five rebounds and two blocks while A.J. Larkin (Passaic, NJ / St. Mary's) dished out five assists as did freshman Michael Price (Plainfield, NJ / Plainfield), who also had six points and five rebounds in 17 minutes off the bench.

 Montclair State shot 56 percent (15-of-27) in the first half and 54 percent for the games while outrebounding Rutgers-Camden, 48-34.

Joe Bush (Piscataway, NJ / Somerset Vo-Tech) and AliNoorzad (Cherry Hill, NJ / Cherry Hill East) had seven points and three rebounds apiece while Jared Meredith (Mt. Laurel, NJ / Burlington Tech) added three points, six rebounds and two steals.

Montclair State returns to action on Wednesday, December 8 as the Red Hawks go on the road to face the Dolphins of College of Staten Island at 7:30 pm. Rutgers-Camden stays on the road with a December 7 contest in Hoboken against Stevens starting at 7:00 pm.
