ROSEMONT, PA - Rosemont College used a 10-19 effort from the three point line to help the group slide past the men's basketball team by an 83-64 margin Thursday evening.
The Ravens started out the opening six minutes of the contest on fire. The host squad began the game with back-to-back-to-back 3-pointers, opening up a 9-3 edge less than two minutes in. From there, PBU's offense wilted.
Rosemont would go on to make two additional triples over the next four minutes while holding their counterpart scoreless. The host group's 5 for 5 effort from downtown helped break open a 26-3 edge with 12:30 remaining in the opening period.
After settling down following the lopsided start, the Crimson Eagles finally started to slow the Raven's torrid offense down. At the halfway point, PBU went into the locker room down 44-24 after watching 7 of Rosemont's 11 first half 3-point attempts find the bottom of the net.
The visitors continued their uphill struggle into the back end of play but began the frame on a 10-4 mini-spurt to pull within 14 at 48-24. However, Rosemont sophomore point guard Justin Chaney - who finished with a game high 27 points - provided a dagger in the form of another Raven longball to help swing the momentum back in the host group's favor.
It would be as close as PBU would get the rest of the way.
For the first time of the year, the Crimson Eagles produced more assists than turnovers, distributing 16 helpers for the game while only giving away 13 free gifts - a season-low mark. However, the stat of the contest was field goal percentage as Rosemont burned the nets by hitting nearly 49 percent of their attempts for the game, a mark that included a 56 percent clip from deep.
Rookie forward Jeff Bishop once again paced the Crimson Eagles with 16 points and nine boards and sophomore guard Adam Derus added a career high mark of 15 points in 30 minutes of work. Junior Luke Taylor added nine points and six rebounds.
The Crimson Eagles will continue their search for the group's first triumph of the season this Saturday against Baptist Bible College. Game time against the Defenders in Langhorne is slated for 7:00 pm.
