Hot Shooting Lifts Pioneer Men Past Tartans 96-70

MARIETTA, Ohio — Marietta College shot a blistering 66.7% from the floor and four players scored in double figures as the Pioneers moved to 4-0 with a 96-70 victory over visiting Carnegie Mellon University Tuesday (Nov. 23) night at Ban Johnson Arena. [Box Score]

Marietta connected on 40-of-60 shots, including 23-of-31 (74.2%) in the second half to turn a 44-37 halftime advantage into a 26-point route of the Tartans (2-2). Pressure defense and a crisp offense resulted in 64 points in the paint for the Pioneers.

Junior Kevin Knab (Lakewood/Lakewood) led all scorers with 21 points to go along with nine boards after he finished 8-of-11 from the floor and 5-of-6 from the free throw line. Junior Trevor Halter (Malvern/Malvern) added 14 points and sophomore Jason Humphrey (Naples, Fla./Barron Collier), who also had nine boards, and junior Conner Kilpatrick (Bowling Green/Bowling Green) both had 10 points. In addition, junior Zane Carter (Wellsville/Wellsville) contributed nine points and three assists, junior Joe Puch (Brunswick/Brunswick) had eight points, freshman Tyler Hammond (Cleveland/St. Ignatius) had eight points and six assists and sophomore Tyler Worstell (Prospect/Franklin Heights) added five assists.

Matthew Pettit paced Carnegie Mellon with 20 points and nine rebounds. Christian Manoli followed with 18 point and Andre Moore had eight points for the Tartans, who finished the game 27-of-62 (43.5%) from the field and were out rebounded 38-26.

The Pioneers now prepare for their first road test of the young season as they will make the trek up to New Concord to battle Muskingum University in an Ohio Athletic Conference opener Wednesday (Dec. 1) night at 7:30 p.m.
