Box Score
CHICAGO, Ill. - The Edgewood College men's basketball team attempted to rally back from a seven-point halftime deficit through the entire second half against North Park University, but could never grab the lead and fell to the Vikings 74-69 in a non-conference match. Senior Jeff Barczak went 9-for-10 from the field and finished with 20 points.
Edgewood College (2-2) scored the first basket of the game on a Barczak hook shot in the paint, but that would be the only time the Eagles would hold the lead. North Park would race out to a 23-11 lead on the strength of making their first six shots from the field. Ben Wisniewski scored the final four points of an 11-3 Eagle run to cut the margin to four points with 4:26 left in the first half. However, North Park (1-1) scored seven of the last 11 points of the half for a 33-26 lead.
The Vikings jumped out to a 46-32 lead, their largest of the game, in the first five minutes of the second half. Kent Faurote hit a pair of free throws to cut the lead to 52-46, but the Eagles could get no closer until the final minute of the game. While Edgewood College was attempting to extend the game with free throws, Faurote and Cashton Craig nailed back-to-back three-point baskets to get within three points, but North Park's Clayton Cahill hit a pair of free throws to seal the victory.
Barczak's 20 points were a new season-high. It was his first 20-point game since scoring a career-high 27 points last season against Rockford College. He also dished out a team-best four assists. Faurote scored 16 points and grabbed a team-high eight rebounds. Wisniewski scored 14 points, including 6-for-8 from the free throw line.
Emanuel Crosby scored 17 points to lead four Vikings in double figures. Jorge Gonzalez added 12 points and 10 rebounds for a double-double.
Edgewood College will face the nation's top-ranked team on the road on Saturday against UW-Stevens Point. The game against the defending national champions begins at 7:00 p.m.
