CHICOPEE, Mass. -- Senior guard Jay Uhrin (Winterport, Maine) scored 12 of his game-high 21 points in the first half to help power Husson University to a 74-51 men's basketball win over the University of New England in the consolation game of the Elms College Blazers Tip-Off Tournament played Sunday afternoon.

Uhrin's 21 point-effort was aided by a 4-for-5 performance from beyond the arc. He hit three treys in the first half as the Eagles built a 36-24 lead.

Six-foot-ten sophomore Marc Zaharchuk (Richmond, Maine) posted a double-double for Husson, scoring 19 points and grabbing 10 rebounds. He was 9-for-12 from the floor. Sophomore Eric Modica (Kittery, Maine) chipped in 10 points.

UNE junior Marcus Winn (Austin, Texas) tallied a team-high 17 points, including four baskets from beyond the arc. Junior co-captain Ryan Knotek (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.) established career highs with 15 points and nine boards.

After the Nor'easters hit a pair of 3's to grab an early 6-0 lead, Husson responded with a 19-2 run to lead 19-8 at the 12:18 mark of the first half. The Eagles' 12-point halftime margin was extended in the early stages of the second frame as Husson pulled away gradually.

Husson (2-1) snapped a three-game losing skid versus the Nor'easters. The Eagles held a 50-38 advantage on the backboard to aid their cause.

UNE (0-4) struggled with its shooting accuracy, converting 26.9 percent (14 of 52) of its field goal attempts and 46.9 percent (15 of 32) of its tries at the line.

The Nor'easters hit the hardwood again Tuesday when Bowdoin College comes to Biddeford for an 8 p.m. matchup. That game may be seen live on Nor'easter All-Access.

Husson has a long layoff before taking on rival St. Joseph's College Dec. 1. That game on the campus of Husson is slated for a 7 p.m. tip.
