Central College streaked to a 21-point halftime lead and overpowered Martin Luther (Minn.) for a 91-69 men's basketball victory Saturday.

Guards Adrian Cave and Demarco Turner each had 17 points. Forward Jack Bruns added 14 points and forward Chris Lehmann had 12 with seven rebounds. Forward Jacob Winkler  also had seven boards along with nine points and blocked three shots.

Central (2-1) broke it open early. Up 7-4 with 15:50 left in the first half, the Dutch went on an 11-2 burst for a 12-point bulge at the 12:30 mark and led at intermission 46-25.

Martin Luther (0-2) climbed back to within 52-42 with 13:50 left in the game but Central answered with an 8-1 run and the margin was never less than 14 the rest of the way.

Central shot 48.3 percent from the floor to Martin Luther's 41.1 percent but the Dutch were outrebounded 37-36 as they allowed 19 offensive rebounds.

After struggling at the free throw line in the season's first two games, the Dutch converted 28-of-34 Saturday (82.4 percent).

"We played well in spurts," coach Mike Boschee said. "But we have some things we need to get ironed out.

"Defensively, I'd like us to be a little more consistent although we are getting much better. I thought starting with the second half against Knox (Thursday) and then today, our defense came around. That needs to continue.

"Our discipline is also improving and that needs to continue as well."

The Dutch are home for a women's-men's doubleheader Tuesday at P.H. Kuyper Gymnasium. The Central women meet Westminster (Mo.) at 5:30 p.m. while the men tackle Augsburg (Minn.) at 7:30 p.m. Augsburg is 1-0. It's Central's first-ever meeting with the Auggies.
