Baruch Defeats Terriers

November 20, 2010, North Dartmouth, MA – The Thomas College Men's Basketball Team (0-2, 0-0 NAC) fell to the Baruch Bearcats (2-1) 80-77, in the third place game of the Hampton Inn Classic hosted by UMass Dartmouth this afternoon.

The Terriers had four players hit double-digits this afternoon in the loss. Senior guard Isaiah Braithwaite (Farmington, ME) led the Terriers with 19 points on his way to making the All-Tournament Team. Senior guard Andrew Duncanson (Portland, ME) scored  15 points, sophomore forward Jarrad DeVaughn (Brockton, MA) scored 13, and  freshmen guard Franklin Salvador (Somerville, MA) added 11 points. The Terriers shot 46.2% from the floor, including 52.6% from behind the arc.

With the score tied 5-5 early in the first half, the Terriers went on an 20-2 run, giving themselves a 25-7 advantage with 10:11 left in the first half. The Bearcats and Terriers exchanged buckets back-and-forth as the first half played out, but the Bearcats finished the half on an 11-3 run, making the score 39-26 at the half.

Baruch came out hot in the second half as they chipped away at the Terrier lead. With 9:48 left in the second half, the Bearcats pulled even with Thomas at 52-52. In the final minutes of the half, both teams jockeyed for the lead and with 4:51 left to play, Baruch took a 65-63 lead and never looked back. Thomas was able to pull within three points several times down the stretch, but solid free throw shooting by the Bearcats secured the 80-77 victory.

The Terriers will be back in action when they host Bates on Tuesday, November 30th for a 7 p.m. tip-off.
