No. 2 Randolph-Macon Tops Shenandoah

GETTYSBURG, Pa. – No. 2 Randolph-Macon used a fast start Friday night to key an 84-62 victory over future ODAC foe Shenandoah in the opening round of the 20th Annual Days Inn Gettysburg Tip-off Tournament.

The 'Jackets (2-0) scored the first eight points of the game and never looked back against Shenandoah (0-2).

The victory earns R-MC a 4:00 date with host Gettysburg, who defeated PSU-Altoona 79-39 in the opening game of the tourney.

SU and the Lions will play in the 2:00 consolation contest.

Macon took a 50-26 lead into the halftime lockerroom as it blitzed the Hornets with 67.9 shooting (19 of 28) from the field.

The 'Jackets also held Shenandoah to an 8 of 23 performance (34.8 percent) during that same period and forced Shenandoah into 12 first half turnovers.

Macon started the second half with a pair of dunks, extending its advantage to 28 points, and coasted home to the victory.

However, Shenandoah did not fold its tents and was able to finish the game on a 26-7 run to cut the final margin of victory to 22 points.

Senior Kevin Kline led SU with a game-high 17 points while Dominic Chappell added 16 and Mitch Dudley 13.

Danny Jones, whose sister, Emily Jones, plays volleyball for Shenandoah, paced the victors with 16 points.

Macon shot an even 50 percent (29 of 58) for the game with the Hornets shooting 35.8 percent (19 of 53). The 'Jackets also held a 47-32 advantage on the glass.
