FREDERICK, Md.--Five Blazers reached double figures as the Hood College men's basketball team (1-0) presented eighth-year head coach Tom Dickman with his 100th collegiate coaching victory by defeating Penn State Mont-Alto (0-1), 93-59, in its season opener Monday evening.

The Blazers pumped in 50.7 percent of their shots and forced 30 Nittany Lion turnovers en route to the decisive victory. A total of 11 different players contributed to the scoring on the night for the hosts, led by Cameron Cook's game-high 15 in his Blazer debut. Herb Bowen and Tyler Snoots tallied 12 apiece off the bench and Derrick Buadum and Brenden Straughn registered 11 each. Buadum also amassed five assists and four steals while Reco Siler finished with a career-high eight assists.

The Nittany Lions connected on five of their first six shots from the field, including three treys, but could not sustain the hot streak, connecting on five of their next 16 from the field and found themselves trailing by double figures midway through the period. Hood led by as many as 20 in the stanza and took a 48-30 advantage into the locker room. Hood continued to pour it on in the second half en route to one of the more lopsided victories in program history.

Both teams drilled eight three-pointers on the night, which included a 4-for-7 effort from behind the arc by Penn State's Shane Santell.

Hood returns to the Odom Fitness Center Tuesday evening hosting the Goucher College Gophers in the opening round of the Pride of Maryland tournament. Tip is slated for 7:30 p.m.
