RIVER FOREST, Ill. -- Marquis Turley's free throw with :07 left in the game lifted host Dominican University to a 74-73 win over the University of Chicago men's basketball team in the season debut for both teams Monday night.
Chicago led for most of the game's first 30 minutes before a pair of Turley foul shots put the Stars on top 56-54 with 8:22 remaining in the contest.
A Turley basket at the 4:38 mark gave Dominican a six-point edge, 67-61, but the Maroons rallied to even the score at 73-73 when Matt Johnson sunk a pair of free throws with :31 to go.
With :07 remaining, Turley hit the front end of a two-shot foul for what proved to be the winning point, but missed the second attempt. Chicago grabbed the rebound and had a chance to win, but the Maroons turned the ball over on their final possession.
Tom Williams scored a game-high 22 points for Chicago, while Steve Stefanou and Chase Davis added 13 and 10 points, respectively.
Jovan Turley led six Stars in double digits with 16 points. Marquis Turley finished with 11.
Both teams shot better than 50% from the field (Dominican 56%, Chicago 52%). Chicago led 38-37 at the half.
