FOND DU LAC, Wis. - St. Norbert College went on a 28-4 run in the second half to pull away from and defeat Marian University 67-55 in a nonconference game at Sadoff Gymnasium.

The Green Knights, ranked No. 10 in the D3hoops.com pre-season Top 25, turned a tenuous 33-32 lead into a 61-36 bulge over an 11-minute stretch in the second half. It was the season opener for both teams.

The Green Knights saw their lead at one when Marian's Jeff Harris scored with 16 minutes 1 seconds left for a 33-32 score. St. Norbert then went on a 9-0 run over the next four minutes, capped off by a Brandon Gries 3-pointer for a 42-32 lead with 12:16 left.

St. Norbert led 47-36 with 10:24 to go before delivering the knockout blow with 14-0 run over the next six minutes. Gries and David Wipperfurth jumpstarted the run with a pair of 3-pointers.

St. Norbert shot 50 percent (23-for-46) from the floor for the game, and connected on 12 of 21 (57.1 percent) of its shots in the second half. Paul Appleton kept St. Norbert in the game in the first half, when it held a 28-26 lead, scoring 10 of his team-high 12 points in the first 20 minutes of action. Gries added nine points and Paul Mallers eight. Twelve different St. Norbert players cracked the scoring column.

Marian was harassed into 24 turnovers, and ended up shooting 37.5 percent (18-for-48) from the floor for the game. D.J. Vaughn led Marian with 14 points, with 12 coming on 3-pointers in the last three minutes of the game. The Sabres held a 31-30 rebounding advantage.
