Marymount rallied from a four-point deficit to beat MIT while Trine and George Fox won their first round showdowns with other ranked foes. Plus Amherst's defense set a new record in a blowout win over Becker.

No. 17 Marymount used two fourth quarter runs to rally past MIT 58-54 and into the second round of the 2018 NCAA Division III women's basketball tournament. After MIT took a 43-37 lead early in the fourth quarter, the Saints (25-3) responded with a 7-0 run that gave them a 44-43 lead with 8:25 left. The Engineers (18-10) recovered and regained the lead briefly but Regan Lohr's layup sparked an 8-0 Marymount run that put the Saints in front for good. Lohr scored 12 of her 13 points in the fourth quarter and the Saints went 14-for-18 from the foul line.

The Saints advance to play regional host Rochester which took care of Stevens, 69-57.

No. 7 Trine flipped a 10-point deficit into a decisive 65-50 win over No. 12 DePauw in a first round battle of ranked Great Lakes teams. The Thunder (25-3) outscored the Tigers 40-23 in the second half with Brandi Dawson leading the way. Dawson posted 21 points on 8-for-14 shooting and Hayley Martin added a double-double (18 points, 10 rebounds) for Trine. The Thunder will have a rematch of last year's first round matchup with Illinois Wesleyan. The Titans held off Marietta 83-77 thanks to 29 points from Molly McGraw and 23-for-28 free throw shooting.

No. 13 George Fox didn't need a rally to get past No. 24 St. Benedict 79-63. George Fox (25-3) led wire-to-wire thanks to 53 percent shooting from three (8-for-15) and a perfect 17-for-17 night at the foul line. Kaitlin Jamieson led the Bruins with 26 points and 11 rebounds. George Fox plays host No. 2 Wartburg which ran past Webster 86-45.

Amherst led a cavalcade of lopsided wins for highly ranked teams. The top-ranked Mammoths held Becker to three points in the second half and grounded the Hawks 61-12, setting record for fewest points allowed in an NCAA Division III women's basketball tournament game. Other overwhelming wins included Bowdoin beating Husson 94-32, St. Thomas rolling past Chapman 81-51 and UW-Whitewater blitzing former WIAC foe UW-Superior 81-46. 

As is usually the case in the first round of the women's tournament, the neutral court games were the closest on Friday night.

Ithaca took advantage of 25 SUNY Geneseo turnovers and never trailed in its 54-47 win over the Knights at Tufts' regional. The Bombers (21-7) scored 23 points off the Knights' turnovers and outrebounded them 40-30. Gustavus Adolphus jumped out to a 10-point lead on Rose-Hulman at the end of one period and held on the rest of the way for a 60-52 victory. Miranda Rice scored 23 points and Mikayla Miller added 19 more for the Gusties (23-6).

Gettysburg outscored Albright 15-4 down the stretch and ousted the Lions from the tournament, 74-65. Emily Gibbons led the Bullets (26-2) with 21 points. FDU-Florham turned its game against Skidmore into an up-tempo affair and a 70-66 victory for itself. Sophomore Taiah Thornton scored 23 points for FDU-Florham (22-6) which will face Bowdoin tomorrow night.
