Oswego State ended Randolph-Macon's title defense and home winning streak, while Nichols advanced to the Elite Eight, UW-Whitewater got two FTs with 0.3 left, Wheaton knocked out St. Joe's, Swarthmore crushed Keene, and Mount Union and UW-Oshkosh advanced as well.

Sweet 16 has a critical mass
The NCAA put three of the four women's sectionals in Massachusetts, and none in Texas, which hasn't hosted a sectional since 2008. In fact, teams currently in Region 10 have hosted just one women's sectional in 14 years, and just one men's sectional since 2000.

UMHB wins at buzzer; NESCAC, UAA eliminated
Josiah Johnson scored 32 points, including a buzzer-beating 3, while Nichols eliminated Middlebury, UW-Whitewater dropped Case, North Park edged Wash U and St. Joe's beat Williams at home. The men are down to a sweet 16 teams, and host sites have been announced.

CCC, UEC champs pick up first-round wins
Nichols rallied from a big deficit to knock off Rochester, Lancaster Bible gave the United East a first-round win for the third Tournament in a row, and the program that Jim Calhoun built finally got a D-III NCAA Tournament victory. The UAA, which had five teams selected to the tournament, lost its first three of the night but rallied to win its last two.

In the men's game of the night, the Captains erased a 10-point halftime deficit and survived a would-be buzzer-beater attempt as Christopher Newport held on to defeat Farmingdale State 61-60.

Albertus Magnus upset No. 1 St. Joseph (Conn.) and sent the last undefeated team in Division III men’s hoops into the NCAA Tournament with a loss. Meanwhile, Schreiner completed its Cinderella run, Sewanee stunned Berry, and everything went according to form on the women’s side.

Saturday men: Bubbles a-poppin'
Babson played its way into the NCAA Tournament past NEWMAC top seed WPI, St. Thomas (Texas) got bounced in the SCAC semifinals, Wabash returned the favor to conference rival Wooster, Guilford won at the buzzer and NESCAC top seed Williams lost, meaning the NESCAC will probably steal an extra bid.

Rowan and Baruch wrapped up NCAA Tournament bids, but it was trouble elsewhere as Utica lost, UW-La Crosse lost, Wheaton (Ill.) lost and the top two seeds in the ASC and the SCIAC all lost, making for uncomfortable waiting for some. More in Friday's wrapup.
