After a short stay in Division III, Tamika Williams-Jeter is making a short trip back to Division I.

The former standout player at the University of Connecticut will be the next head coach for Dayton after one season in the same position at Wittenberg in Springfield, Ohio.

Williams-Jeter came to Wittenberg in April 2021 and led the Tigers to an 18-8 record and the NCAA Tournament after Wittenberg won the NCAC tournament last month.

"All of us at Wittenberg would like to thank Tamika on her coaching efforts with our Women's Basketball program and her great influence on our entire University," said Wittenberg athletic director Brian Agler in the school's news release. "She has positioned us well for the future.  We wish her and her family the best!"

Williams-Jeter was a National Rookie of the Year, an All-American and a two-time national championship during her playing career with the Huskies. After graduating, she played seven season in the WNBA. She then worked as an assistant coach at Ohio State, Penn State, Kentucky and Kansas.

Williams-Jeter is a Dayton native who attended high school at Chaminade-Julienne Catholic High School in the city.

"Dayton represents my family, my foundation, and my heart,” said Williams-Jeter in Dayton's news release. “I am grateful to [Dayton University] President Spina, [Director of Athletics] Neil Sullivan, and [Senior Associate A.D.] Angie Petrovic for giving me the opportunity to continue to guide UD women’s basketball to greatness. Lastly, I want to thank my husband, Richard Jeter, for allowing me to bring my sons back to the city that made me. Go Flyers!”
