No. 4 Illinois Wesleyan held off No. 17 UW-Oshkosh to win the Jack Sikma Hall of Fame Invitational. Earlier No. 3 Marietta was marooned in Salem and No. 8 Swarthmore survived at Scranton. On the women's side, the Royals reigned in their Top 25 battle with DeSales.

After the Titans of Illinois Wesleyan took a 37-29 halftime lead, the Titans from UW-Oshkosh battled back to take a 47-46 lead midway through the second half on Eddie Muench's driving layup. Peter Lambesis gave Illinois Wesleyan (2-0) the lead back with 4:31 left and Matthew Leritz followed with a three-pointer to extend the Titans' lead to five. Hunter Plamann hit a hanging jump shot to pull UW-Oshkosh within two with 41 seconds left and Illinois Wesleyan came up empty on its next possession. Oshkosh came down the floor looking for the tie or win when the shot clock inadvertently sounded and halted play. Oshkosh retained the ball with eight seconds left and had another chance to win the game but Muench's three was off the mark and the Titans in green celebrated.

Leritz finished with a double-double (19 points, 10 rebounds) in 34 minutes while Levi Borchert did the same for Oshkosh (18 points, 13 rebounds).

No. 20 Roanoke defended its home court and downed No. 3 Marietta, 77-68, behind Kasey Draper's big game. Draper dropped 31 points on 11 for 18 shooting and grabbed eight rebounds for the Maroons (2-0). Marietta heads home with a 1-1 record and a showdown with No. 1 Randolph-Macon scheduled for next Saturday.

Whitworth used a balanced attack to sneak by UW-Whitewater on the second leg of their Wisconsin trip, 80-79.  The Pirates had five players in double figures, led by 17 from JT McDermott.  The Warhawks outrebounded Whitworth 42-26, but the Pirates made more free throws than Whitwater attempted.  Derek Gray, who led Whitewater with 22 points, had a chance to win it in the final seconds, but missed a contested layup.

No. 17 UW-Platteville continued its impressive start with a 77-62 win over Gustavus Adolphus, as the Pioneers starting lineup combined for 69 points. Quentin Shields led UW-Platteville with 22 points.

No. 8 Swarthmore won a tight context at Scranton, 73-67, in a game that had 10 lead changes and 18 ties. The Garnet took the lead, 68-65, on Vinny Deangelo's three-point play with 45 seconds left. Jackson Danzig answered with a jumper for Scranton, cutting the lead to 68-67 but Swarthmore made its free throws down the stretch to seal its win. Deangelo scored 29 points in 28 minutes for the Garnet (2-0).

In early finals, WPI jumped out to a 10-0 lead and coasted to victory over Colby, 66-49. John Adams had 14 points and 13 rebounds for the Engineers (3-0). Jeff Bikus scored five points in a one-minute stretch and Hope topped St. John's, 62-58.

On the women's side, No. 12 Scranton hit 13 three-pointers, including two in the final 65 seconds to beat No. 9 DeSales, 74-68. After the Lady Royals built an 11-point lead, DeSales fought back to go in front 68-67 on a Meagan Bealer free throw with two minutes to play. The teams traded empty possessions and then Scranton found Emily Shurina for a three-pointer that put the Royals back on top, 70-68. DeSales missed its next shot and Scranton's Abby Anderson splashed home another three to put the game away.

Scranton All-American Bridget Monaghan had a stellar night, scoring 30 points with eight 3-pointers. DeSales's All-American forward Averi Jordan scored 19 points and Mikaela Reese had 20 more for the Bulldogs (0-1).

Maeve Summerville's jumper with 16 seconds left was the difference as No. 19 DePauw staved off Calvin, 58-55. The Knights fought back to tie the Tigers three times in the closing minute, the last time on a Gabby Timmer layup with 37 seconds left. DePauw (2-0) called time out and set up the game winning play. Summerville finished with 14 points while Timmer posted 23 points and 11 rebounds for Calvin (2-2).

Much of the preseason Top 25 won their games convincingly. No. 1 Hope crushed Mount Union 94-41 and MIAA rival Trine did the same to Kenyon, 93-33. No. 7 Tufts started its season with a 33-point performance from Molly Ryan and a 20-point win over NJAC preseason favorite Rowan, 73-53.
