On paper, Saturday looked like a day when the Top 25 teams in action would all win. On the court, three teams in the Top 10 fell as Hamilton upset No. 5 Amherst, UW-Oshkosh knocked off No. 6 UW-Whitewater and Luther swept No. 8 Loras.

Hamilton, which just missed upsetting No. 1 Tufts eight days ago, didn't miss its second chance to beat a highly ranked opponent. The Continentals edged No. 5 Amherst 56-55 in Upstate New York on Kelcie Zarle's three-pointer with 38 seconds left.

Hamilton led 53-50 late in the fourth quarter until Amherst's Cam Hendricks grabbed an offensive rebound, scored a layup and was fouled. She made the free throw to tie the game and Hamilton called a timeout to advance the ball. The Continentals missed their first shot but Liz Arnold grabbed the rebound and found Zarle for the game-winning shot. Amherst's Courtney Resch cut the deficit to one with a layup and the Mammoths had a chance to win the game after Hamilton turned the ball over with eight seconds left but Hannah Fox's shot was off the mark.

Zarle finished with a team-high 12 points and Arnold had a double-double for Hamilton (12-6, 2-3 NESCAC). Amherst dropped to 16-3, 3-2 in the NESCAC, which likely eliminates the Mammoths from the NESCAC title chase.

UW-Oshkosh slowed No. 6 UW-Whitewater's roll through the WIAC by beating the Warhawks, 62-51. The Titans (11-7, 4-3 WIAC) shot 13 for 18 from the foul line in the fourth quarter and 21 for 30 overall while Whitewater attempted just six free throws, making two. Leah Porath led Oshkosh with 17 points and six rebounds. Freshman Aleah Grundahl scored 12 for Whitewater (16-2, 6-1 WIAC), which has a one-game lead on La Crosse and Eau Claire in the WIAC standings. No. 21 La Crosse held Eau Claire to 22 percent shooting and defeated the Blugolds, 60-39.

Luther erruped for 33 points in the fourth quarter and overtook No. 8 Loras, 76-66, sweeping the regular season series from the Duhawks. Laura Hamilton scored eight of her game-high 24 points in the fourth quarter, including five points in 51 seconds to start the period. Luther (8-6, 6-1 ARC) shot 9 for 13 in the fourth quarter from the floor and 13 for 15 from the foul line.

Loras (16-2, 7-2 ARC) drops back into a four-way tie for first with Luther, Wartburg and Simpson but Luther now owns the tie breaker over Loras by going 2-0 versus the Duhawks.

No. 10 Bethel narrowly avoided becoming the fourth Top 10 team to lose. Hamline pulled within three of the Royals several times in the fourth quarter, but the Royals held on for a 79-75 win. Taite Anderson rolled up 31 points and 12 rebounds for Bethel (17-0, 12-0 MIAC).

The other three undefeated teams also won on Saturday. No. 1 Tufts took care of Bates, 65-49, and No. 2 Bowdoin shut down CBB rival Colby, 50-39, setting up a rare No. 1 versus No. 2 battle next Friday in Lewiston, Maine. No. 3 Hope made short work of Olivet, 76-27, and head coach Brian Morehouse became the fastest Division III women's basketball coach to reach 600 wins.

Outside the Top 25, Celia Tomlinson scored a layup off an inbound pass with 0.1 second left and RPI topped Ithaca, 56-54, in a match up of Liberty League title contenders. The Bombers had three shots to take the lead in the final minute, but missed all three. RPI grabbed the rebound, called time out and set up the winning play with six seconds left. The Engineers (12-5, 8-2) move into first in the Liberty League, tied with Vassar which mashed Bard, 93-42.

William Peace beat N.C. Wesleyan, 77-71, and extended its lead over the Battling Bishops to two in the loss column in their half of the USA South Athletic Conference. Mikayla Ray scored 12 points and grabbed nine rebounds for the Pacers (16-2, 9-0 USA South) who have won 11 straight since losing to Division II St. Augustine's on Nov. 27. Berea is also undefeated in conference after cruising past Agnes Scott, 84-48, but the Mountaineers (17-0, 10-0 USA South) won't play William Peace in the USA South's unbalanced schedule.

DeSales stifled Misericordia, 75-46, and knocked the Cougars out of a tie for first in the MAC Freedom Conference. The Bulldogs held (13-4, 5-1 MACF) held Misericordia to 27 percent shooting (16 for 60) and got double-figure scoring from four players, led by Averi Jordan with 18 points. Misericordia's loss and King's 70-50 over Delaware Valley puts the Monarchs alone atop the conference. Misericordia hosts King's on Wednesday night.
