Salem College hired Quntashea Lewis, who was one of the Spirits' most successful players, as its new head coach. She replaces Britni Mohney who was named head coach at Penn College.
Salem College Director of Athletics Trish Hughes announced the hire via release in late March 2019.
"We are very excited to have Quntashea as our new head coach to lead our women's basketball program into its next chapter," Hughes said in the school's release. "She is a rising star and her ties as an alumna to Salem College make this particular hire even more special."
Lewis is one of only three players in Salem women's basketball history to score 1,000 points in their career. She was named third-team All-Region as a senior in 2015-16.
Lewis spent last season on Michael Coppolino's coaching staff at Mount St. Mary. Coppolino also changed jobs, taking over the perennial Top 25 program at George Fox. Prior to that she spent two seasons as a graduate assistant at Eastern Mennonite where she earned her master's degree in interdisciplinary studies.
"I am both thankful and excited for this opportunity. I have a genuine love for the Salem College community as well as this basketball program," she said in the release. "It's so exciting that I have been given the opportunity to pay it forward to a place that that means so much to me. This community has played such a huge part in shaping me into the women I am today."
Lewis replaces her former head coach Britni Mohney who went 35-86 in five seasons at Salem. The Spirits reached double-digit victories in 2018 when they finished 10-15 overall and 8-8 in the USA South Athletic Conference, but they slid back to 1-24, 1-15 last season.
Mohni landed at Penn College where she will take be the Wildcats head coach. The College's Director of Athletics John Vandevere announced the hire via release.
"I am very excited to welcome Britni Mohney to Penn College as our next Head Women's Basketball Coach," Vandevere said in the relase. "We had a very strong, competitive candidate pool and Britni was just outstanding throughout the process."
Mohni was previously an assistant coach and head cross country coach at Keuka and played at Allegheny College in Meadville, Pa.
Penn College finished 1-24, 0-16 in the NEAC last season.
