Knox College named Ben Davis as its new head men's basketball coach. Davis spent last season as the head coach at former Division III member Green Mountain College, which is closing at the end of the semester.
Davis replaces Kevin Walden who resigned in February after going 20-145 over seven seasons with the Prairie Fire. Knox finished 1-24 last season.
Knox Director of Athletics Daniella Irle announced the hiring via release on Tuesday.
"We are thrilled to welcome Ben to our staff," said Irle. "He has a great coaching background as a head coach and in the Midwest, and his teams have had success on and off the court."
After graduating from the University of Minnesota, Davis spent time as an assistant at two MIAC schools. He was an assistant for one season at Macalester and then spent two seasons at Carleton when the Pipers reached the 2010 NCAA Tournament.
Davis then became the head coach at Dakota County Technical College in Rosemount, Minnesota where he led the Blue Knights to the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Tournament for the first time in program history and was named the regional coach of the year.
Davis spent last season at former Division III member Green Mountain College in Poultney, Vermont. The Eagles went 18-10 and won the Northeastern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference title in the NAIA. Davis was also the Eagles' head coach for the 2017-18 season, their last in Division III during which they went 8-16, 6-12 in the NAC. Green Mountain College announced that it will close at the end of this academic year.
