No. 4 Thomas More usually overwhelms foes on offense, but it was the Saints' defense that impressed on Saturday evening in a 68-49 road win at No. 17 UW-Whitewater.

Thomas More set the tone in the first period by shooting 77 percent (10-for-13) and holding UW-Whitewater to 27 percent shooting (4-for-15) in a period the Saints' won 26-11. The Warhawks (4-2) struggled against the Saints' size and quickness around the rim and were unable to extend Thomas More's defense, shooting just 1-for-14 from three. Thomas More (7-0) continues its road trip with a game at No. 5 Chicago on Monday night. The Maroons cruised past Elmhurst 73-54 on Saturday afternoon.
No. 14 Messiah controlled tempo for much of its game at No. 11 Christopher Newport and eventually capsized the Captains in a 68-62 Falcons' victory. After trailing for much of the game, Christopher Newport (6-1) rallied to briefly take the lead on Kiana Kirkland's layup in the fourth quarter. But Kristen Smoluk answered immediately to tie the game for Messiah (7-1) and that keyed an 11-3 run that put the Falcons ahead for good.
Messiah slowed down the Captains' up-tempo offense and forced 27 CNU turnovers. Kirkland led the Captains with 21 points, but she also had seven turnovers. Alecia Rohrer powered Messiah with 16 points and 20 rebounds.
No. 21 DePauw used a 9-0 run and stingy defense to rally past Kenyon 45-42 and give Kris Huffman her 600th career win. Huffman has a career record of 600-122 with two national championships her 26 years with the Tigers.
Washington and Lee jumped on No. 15 Emory and Henry early and held on to beat the Wasps, 71-62. The Generals (4-2, 2-1 ODAC) scored the first nine points of the game and the Wasps turned the ball over nine times in the first quarter. Washington and Lee shot 9-for-10 from the foul line in the final 64 seconds and Megan Horn finished 22 points for the Generals.
Abby Kelly scored 22 points and top-ranked Bowdoin clobbered CBB rival Colby 79-49. The teams will meet again in the game that counts in the NESCAC standings on Jan. 19. The third member of the CBB rivalry fell to No. 12 St. Joseph's (Maine) as the Monks got big games from Kelsi McNamara (20 points, 12 assists) and Emily Benway (24 points, 12 assists) in 93-71 win over Bates. No. 6 Tufts held Williams to 16 points in the middle two quarters and the Jumbos stifled Williams 67-41 in a non-conference game between the NESCAC foes.
No. 20 Gettysburg used a strong second quarter to claim a key victory in the Centennial Conference race with a 55-52 win at Haverford. The Bullets (6-1, 4-0) outscored the Fords 20-9 in the second quarter and held Haverford (6-1, 3-1) to 34 percent shooting, including 5-for-24 from three. All-American Emily Dorshimer paced Gettysburg with 20 points and 10 rebounds.
Outside the Top 25, Sage edged DeSales 74-73 in a see-saw game where the lead changed hands six times in the final three minutes. After Rylie Rittenhouse's three-pointer put the Bulldogs (5-2) ahead 73-72 with 26 seconds left, Emily Parslow grabbed an offensive rebound off her own miss and put the Gators (3-2) back in front 74-73. DeSales got one more shot for the win and missed. Parslow finished with 19 points and Megan Flynn added 20 points, 11 rebounds and four steals for Sage.
Eastern Connecticut capped a great week with a 75-70 win over previously unbeaten Mass-Boston. The Warriors, who also gave Rhode Island College its first loss on Wednesday, were led by Julie Klecker's 25 points, including a 8-for-9 showing from the foul line.
The Atlantic East Conference opened its first season of conference play with close wins by Marymount and Cabrini. Three players scored double figures in Marymount's 56-51 win at Neumann. Kate Lannon's layup with 20 seconds left gave Cabrini the lead for good as the Cavaliers edged former CSAC rivals Gwynedd-Mercy, 66-65.
Mount Union overwhelmed Ohio Northern 77-58 in the OAC opener for the two undefeated teams. The Purple Raiders (6-0, 1-0) used 20 players, 13 of which scored, led by Rachel Tinkey who had 17 points in 22 minutes.
