After spending last season as an assistant on Salem State's men's basketball staff, Bobby Verdun will lead the University's women's basketball program.
The school's Athletics Director Tracey Hathaway announced the hiring on Sept. 4.
"Coach Verdun has tremendous leadership and coaching experience," said Hathaway in the University's release. "Those who know him describe him as a man of character, integrity, and one who deeply cares about higher education and the student-athletes he serves."
Verdun was an assistant men's basketball coach at Division II Franklin Pierce University where he led recruiting. He was also a two-time conference coach of the year in tennis at Franklin Pierce. According to Salem State's release, he is also a consultant who helps develop wellness and fitness centers.
Verdun replaces Al Berger who went 9-17, 5-7 in the MASCAC in his lone season as the Vikings' head coach.
Salem State opens the new season at Rhode Island College on Nov. 10.
