Andrew Garcia, the first-ever head men's basketball coach at Chatham, has accepted a position as an assistant coach at Division I University of South Carolina Upstate. Garcia's last day will be May 11. A nationwide search will begin immediately.
"Andrew has done a tremendous job getting the program off on the right foot. We wish him the best of luck in his future," said Director of Athletics Leonard Trevino notes. "We are excited about taking the next step for the program."
Garcia was hired in 2014 as the school’s first-ever head men’s basketball coach. He was in his fourth year with the Cougars and guided the team to a 22-56 overall record in three seasons. He led Chatham to its first-ever Presidents’ Athletic Conference tournament berth in 2016.
"It has been an amazing experience here at Chatham starting a program and seeing it develop over the first few seasons. I know that Chatham basketball is on the right path to more success in the future. I will always be grateful for the opportunity I had to become a head coach and learn how to build a program. I want to thank everyone involved in Chatham athletics but most of all, I want to thank the players that helped to start this team," said Garcia.
