Head women's basketball coach Sandy Rectenwald has announced her resignation from Chatham due to family reasons. Rectenwald will complete her final day with the institution on Friday, March 2. An immediate nationwide search for the position is underway.
"Sandy has moved the program forward and continued the Chatham tradition of excellent student-athletes," athletic director Leonard Trevino said. "From the entire Chatham community, we want to thank her for her service and wish her the best of luck in future endeavors."
Rectenwald was in her seventh year as head coach for the Cougars, and guided the team to a 45-133 overall record in seven seasons. She joined the Chatham athletics department in 2011. The Cougars were 5-20 this past season.
"I am thankful for the opportunities that Chatham has provided me. I am proud of the team's accomplishments over my tenure here. Chatham will always hold a special place in my heart," expressed Rectenwald.
Under Rectenwald, the Cougars competed regionally and nationally, earning their second consecutive trip to the PAC conference playoffs during the 2016-17 season. The Cougars hosted their first-ever PAC playoff game in the 2016-17 season. After tying the school record for wins in a season during the 2015-16 campaign, the team broke the wins in a season with 13 and earned the first .500 season for women's basketball.
In 2015, Chatham ranked 20th in 2015-16 WBCA Academic Team Honor Roll. This was the third consecutive year that the Chatham finished in the top 25; the team finished 5th in the 2014-15 season, and second in the 2013-14 season.
During her time at Chatham, Katie Sieg was named to the 2016-17 All-PAC second team. In 2015-16, Sieg and Rachel McClain ere both named All-PAC honorable mention. McClain and Emily Schmidt earned All-PAC honorable mention in the 2013-14 and 2014-15 seasons.
