Elizabethtown College announced Britt Moore as its new head men's basketball coach, replacing Bob Schlosser who retired at the end of last season. Moore, who began his playing career at Etown, had been the head coach at Pitt-Bradford.
Elizabethtown College Director of Athletics Chris Morgan announced the hire on Monday.
"We were fortunate to have a strong pool of candidates for our men's basketball position and Britt stood out amongst the group," said Morgan in the College's release. "His desire to help student-athletes succeed both on and off the court is an extremely important quality for our program. Britt is an organized professional, who will be an asset to our department and the College."
The hiring brings Moore back to the school where he began his playing career. Moore played 25 games for Elizabethtown as a sophomore in 2000-01 and then transferred to King's in Wilkes-Barre, Pa. to be closer to his family. He played his final two seasons for the Monarchs and was a member of the conference's All-Academic team.
"This is surreal," said Moore in the release "I want to thank Chris Morgan and the search committee for entrusting me with this opportunity. Elizabethtown has always been a special place for me and it is truly an honor to be the next head coach of the Blue Jays men's basketball program. This program has a storied history and I know living up to Coach Schlosser's incredible legacy won't be easy, but I am ready for the challenge."
Schlosser retired after 27 seasons and 364 wins as the Blue Jays' head coach.
Moore spent the last six seasons as the head coach at Pitt-Bradford where he went 78-78 with the Panthers. His best season was 2013-14 when the Panthers went 16-11 and lost to Penn State-Behrend in the AMCC tournament semifinal. Last season Pittt-Bradford went 12-13, 10-8 in the AMCC.
Moore also spent time as an assistant coach at Misericordia and Albright. He earned his master's degree from Drexel.
Elizabethtown finished 5-19, 2-12 in the Landmark last season.
