Blackburn chooses new women's coach

The Blackburn Beavers are eager for change after going 3-70 in women's basketball over the past three seasons. Dr. James Chandler will have the chance to turn the program around after accepting the head coaching job on an interim basis.

College Athletic Director John Malin announced the hiring in a release on Wednesday.

"Jim is an excellent candidate to fill this position and he is excited to have the opportunity to coach at Blackburn and help build the women’s basketball program,” Malin in the release.  “Jim has an accomplished career as a teacher, coach and administrator and we are fortunate to him take over the leadership role for the program."

Chandler graduated from Blackburn where he played basketball and earned all-conference honors. He then coached high school basketball in Missouri and registered a 203-100 record over 11 seasons. He recently retired as Superintendent from the Warren County R-III School District in Warrenton, Mo.

Chandler replaces Katie Fonseca who went 3-45 in two seasons at Blackburn.

The Beavers finished 1-22, 1-15 in the SLIAC last season.
