Schreiner University announced Rhodes assistant coach Samantha "Sam" Davidson as its next head women's basketball coach, replacing Temaine Wright who resigned after four seasons.
"She's young, energetic, has a great vision for the program and has a strong commitment to academic success," said University Athletic Director Ron Macosko in a release. "She articulates her knowledge of X's and O's very clearly and has a defense-first philosophy. I'm sure that she can be tough when needed but you could really sense that she cares about her players and will push them and mentor them to be the best they can be in their college careers."
Davidson spent the last two years as an assistant at Rhodes College under Matt Dean, who announced his retirement at the end of February. The Lynx hired All-American Lauren Avant Sumski to take over the Lynx's program.

Before coaching at Rhodes, Davidson spent a year as a high school assistant coach at the Webb School in Bell Buckle, Tenn. She also spent a year on Pat Summitt's staff at the University of Tennessee.
Davidson played four years, three as a starter, at Birmingham-Southern from 2008 through 2012. The 5-foot-3 guard finished in the Panthers' top five in career assists.
She replaces Temaine Wright who resigned after four successful seasons with the Mountaineers. Wright led Schreiner to its best conference record in program history in 2015-16 when the Mountaineers finished 10-4, earning Wright SCAC Coach of the Year honors. Wright went 52-57 overall but 36-20 in conference during his four seasons.
Schreiner went 11-16, 8-6 in the SCAC last season.
