It was a rough night to be a No. 2 seed in the conference playoffs as the second team in the OAC men, NJAC men and CUNYAC women tournaments lost.

Two of the top four seeds in the OAC tournament lost and the other two needed overtime to advance through Tuesday night's quarterfinal games. Muskingum scored the biggest upset when Marcus Dempsey drained a three-pointer with one second left to lift the Muskies over second-seed John Carroll, 69-68. John Carroll seemed poised to score a come-from-behind win when David Linane found Antonio Vuyancih for a go-ahead layup with 13 seconds left. Muskingum ran the clock down to three seconds before calling time out to set up Dempsey's game-winning shot. The loss puts the Blue Streaks deep on the bubble since they were ranked fifth in last week's Great Lakes regional rankings before losing their last two games.

Baldwin Wallace scored late to beat OAC third-seed Ohio Northern, 72-71. Ohio Northern shot 51 percent from the field (28-for-55) but the Yellow Jackets hit 16 three-pointers. Top-seed Marietta lost a four-point lead with a minute to play in regulation but the Pioneers finished off Heidelberg 94-80 in overtime. Anthony Wallace scored 29 points for Marietta which will host Mount Union on Wednesday night. The Purple Raiders edged past Capital 95-89 in overtime.

No. 21 New Jersey City avenged last season's NJAC playoff loss to TCNJ by beating the Lions 78-69 in this year's tournament semifinal. Conference Rookie of the Year Sam Toney followed up his 24-point performance against Stockton with 18 points against TCNJ, including a clutch three late in the game. The Gothic Knights earned a rubber match with No. 7 Ramapo since the Roadrunners ran past Rowan 110-101 in the other semifinal.

Ben Meinholz scored 24 points and Zach Schradle added 21 more as UW-La Crosse ousted UW-Eau Claire from the WIAC tournament, 76-66. The Eagles shot 51 percent (25-for-49) and converted 19 Eau Claire turnovers into 19 points. The Blugolds, who were slotted fourth in last week's Central Region rankings, drop to 18-8 with back-to-back losses. No. 19 UW-Whitewater held off UW-Stout 78-69 in the other WIAC first round matchup.

The zany CCIW regular season came to a fitting end as Augustana missed its third and final chance to win the conference crown outright. Illinois Wesleyan hammered the Vikings 107-77 as the Titans hit nine 3-pointers and scored 62 points in the first half. Brady Rose scored 24 points and shot 6-for-6 from behind the arc. Augustana's loss allowed North Park and Carthage to share the CCIW title with wins over Millikin and Wheaton (Ill.) respectively. Carthage beat the Thunder when Kienan Baltimore found Brad Kruse for a layup with 1.3 seconds left. Carthage will host the CCIW tournament this weekend while North Central (Ill.) takes the final playoff spot thanks to Saturday night's 82-80 overtime win over Illinois Wesleyan.

Cazenovia eliminated the de facto two-seed from the NEAC tournament when the Wildcats held off SUNYIT, 83-82. Cazenovia was called for a technical foul with one second remaining and a two-point lead. SUNYIT made the technical free throw but missed the last-second three pointer off the inbound play. Nicholas Filippi and Jaceary Menes combined to score 53 points in 74 minutes for Cazenovia.

In a relatively quiet night on the women's side, Staten Island eliminated second-seed Lehman from the CUNYAC tournament, 69-43. The Dolphins will face Brooklyn in Friday night's championship game since the Bulldogs rolled over CCNY, 74-49.

Division III's all-time leader for rebounds and shot blocks will get at least one more game to add to her totals. Jordan Holmes tallied 16 points, 20 rebounds and five blocks and Denison upset Ohio Wesleyan 61-46 in the NCAC tournament. Emily Gibbons picked up another double-double for Gettysburg, including the 1,000th point of her career, to lead the Bullets to a 79-67 win over Johns Hopkins in the Centennial Conference play-in game.

Gabby Hood's free throw with one second left was the difference in Alverno's 64-63 win over Benedictine in the NACC tournament. Hood finished with 16 points, 12 rebounds and four assists. Sixth-seed Alverno will play Lakeland in the NACC semifinals on Thursday night. Randolph College made program history by beating Bridgewater (Va.) 78-65 in the ODAC tournament. The win is the WildCats first in conference playoff history.
