Lynchburg outlasted Roanoke 160-156 in a record-breaking double-overtime thriller that set a new record for most combined points in a single game between two Division III.

The teams were scoring at a frenetic pace even before they reached overtime. No. 21 Roanoke (19-5, 11-4 ODAC) held a 71-66 halftime lead over the Hornets and the teams had already combined for 80 field goal attempts. Austen Arnold led Lynchburg (18-6, 11-4 ODAC) with 41 points in 39 minutes, including the game-clinching free throws with less than 30 seconds left in the second extra period. Cameron Smith was one of five Roanoke players who scored at least 20 points, but the only player on either side to notch a double-double (32 points, 10 rebounds). The game sets a new record for combined points by two Division III teams in a single game, passing the 315-point mark held by Simpson and Grinnell in 1994. Roanoke also set the a new record for most points scored in a losing effort, passing Redlands (153 points in a loss to Division II California Baptist in 2004) and Chapman (153 in a triple-overtime loss to Redlands in 2003). On Wednesday afternoon the NCAA released its second set of regional rankings that provide insight into how a team stacks up against others in its own region for potential NCAA tournament at-large bids and hosting opportunities. No. 4 Marietta will have home court throughout the OAC tournament after beating Otterbein 80-56 and getting some help from Mount Union. The Purple Raiders hit nine 3-pointers in the second half and rallied past No. 8 John Carroll 100-94. The Blue Streaks have dropped three straight after opening the season 21-0.
Joey Flannery scored 22 points and No. 20 Babson took care of Coast Guard 80-73 to secrure the top seed in the NEWMAC tournament. The Beavers led wire-to-wire in their eighth straight victory.
Chapman defeated Cal Lutheran 87-72 to claim home court court in the SCIAC tournament. The Panthers have a two-game lead on Whittier with two games to play and hold the tie-breaker advantage. Meanwhile there are four teams tied for the final two spots in the SCIAC playoff field.
St. Vincent bounced back from Saturday's heart-breaking loss to Grove City with an 82-67 win over Thiel to wrap up home court in the President's Athletic Conference. JC Howard scored 12 points, including the 1,000th of his career, for the Bearcats (18-6, 14-3 PAC).
DeSales secured the top spot in the MAC Freedom Conference playoffs without taking the floor. The Bulldogs defeated Manhattanville 77-75 last night and got help from King's which knocked off Delaware Valley 74-67 in overtime on Wednesday. The Aggies (17-7, 8-5) shot 8-for-49 from 3-point range and lost their fourth game in five tries.

Freshman Brent Cahill poured in a career-high 24 points and Nasser Al-Rayes added a double-double with three blocks to lead Caltech to a program-record seventh SCIAC win while forcing a four-team tie for third place with a 65-61 win over La Verne. The SCIAC has a four-team conference tournament.
Jordan Herron notched a double-double and Nate Collins came off Albion's bench to score 19 points as the Britons surprised No. 14 Alma 71-66. The Scots' loss allowed No. 6 Hope to take sole possession of first place with a 90-79 win at Kalamazoo. The Flying Dutchmen finish the regular season at rival Calvin on Saturday.
UW-River Falls and UW-La Crosse finished the night tied for first in the WIAC. The Falcons (15-9, 9-4) held off UW-Stout 81-79 while La Crosse fell 64-57 at UW-Eau Claire. River Falls travels to UW-Oshkosh, which sits one game behind the co-leaders, on Saturday for the regular season finale.
Hilbert tripped No. 24 Penn State-Behrend 63-59 and forged a tie atop the AMCC standings with one game to play. The Hawks (20-4, 14-3 AMCC) were paced by Kirkland Ottey's 17 points and seven rebounds.
The HCAC has a three-way tie for first place entering the final weekend. Rose-Hulman topped Anderson 84-67 and got losses from Defiance and Mount St. Joseph to create the logjam atop the conference. The Fighting Engineers (15-9, 12-5 HCAC) host Defiance on Saturday while Mount St. Joseph hosts Earlham.
No. 7 St. Thomas has already won the MIAC title and is at the top of the NCAA's second West regional rankings. The Tommies defended both positions by beating St. Olaf 78-72 for its 14th win in 15 games away from home. Taylor Monteiro reached the 1,000 point landmark in St. Thomas' win.
