Whoever wants to win the title has to go through Thomas More and an extra long Division III women's basketball season that will end on the big stage in Indianapolis. Photo by Steve Frommell, d3photography.com |
For most of our Top 25 voters, the easiest decision was the first one: putting Thomas More No. 1. The defending champions return four starters and seven players from their regular rotation, including D3hoops.com Player of the Year Sydney Moss, and were a unanimous No. 1 selection in the D3hoops.com preseason women's basketball Top 25 poll.
After that, though there are more questions than consensus. A traditional power that reached the Sweet 16 last season in a down year and has all five starters back? Sounds good, so Amherst is No. 2. How about that team's chief rival? Lost their leading scorer and some key seniors from their rotation but went to the Final Four two years in a row. So the voters collectively are rolling the dice on Tufts doing that again. George Fox? Played in the title game but lost half of their scoring output. NYU was third in the UAA last year and lost in the second round but has four starters back.
That's your preseason top five. Then when you get to No. 6, you have a team that finished last season unranked. Check out that and all the preseason ranking goodness in the D3hoops.com preseason women's Top 25.
