Southwestern women's basketball coach Kerri Brinkoeter has resigned her position to spend more time with her family, athletic director Glada Munt announced.
Brinkoeter led the Pirates to their first SCAC championship since 1997-98 and a berth in the Division III NCAA Tournament. She has a career coaching record of 119-94 in her eight total seasons at Southwestern and was named SCAC Coach of the Year this past season.
This was her second stint coaching the Pirates, from 2010-11 through 2014-15. Southwestern was 79-56 over the past five years. She also coached the team from 2002-05.
"We are greatly appreciative of all Coach Brinkoeter has done for Southwestern," said Munt. "She is not just an outstanding coach, but also a mentor, teacher and community liaison."
Recruiting quality student-athletes was always a priority for Brinkoeter, coaching 25 All-SCAC players, two SCAC Newcomers of the Year, two SCAC Defensive Players of the Year and one Co-Player of the Year.
"I want to thank Southwestern University, Dr. Glada Munt, Southwestern faculty/staff and the Georgetown community for the overwhelming support over the last five years," said Brinkoeter. I have enjoyed every second of coaching the amazing young women in the basketball program and I look forward to watching them continue to challenge for conference championships in the years to come. I am excited about enjoying time with my family and pursuing new career opportunities here in Georgetown."
A nationwide search will commence immediately.
