Saturday women: Stung and stunned

UW-Superior stunned No. 3 UW-Stevens Point 70-65 and Cornell made a splashy return to the MWC by knocking off No. 25 St. Norbert 63-42.

With less than four minutes to play, the Pointers led UW-Superior 63-61. Sally Linzmeier went on a 7-0 run on her own to put the Yellowjackets in front. Linzmeier finished with 22 points and nine rebounds in 34 minutes. Brooke Allen scored 21 points and grabbed 12 rebounds for the Pointers. Superior's win was just its third in 45 tries against Stevens Point since 1991.

Cornell returned to the MWC this season after spending the prior 14 in the IIAC. This week the Rams romped past the defending champions of both conferences. Cornell held St. Norbert to 23 percent shooting (13-for-56) and got 15 points a piece from Taylor Dicus and Kellie Kuzmanic. Rikki Mulloy added 17 for the Rams who have beaten three consecutive teams that reached the 2012 NCAA tournament.

No. 1 DePauw passed one of its tougher tests in the NCAC.  The top-ranked Tigers won at Denison 61-39, improving 6-0 for the first time in program history. No. 10 Messiah defeated Elizabethtown 70-52 on a big day for the Falcons' athletic program.

Plattsburgh State held off Cortland State 59-57 to capture the Cardinals' first road win over the Red Dragons in program history. Haverford finds itself atop the Centennial Conference standings. Dominique Meeks' double-header led the Fords (5-1, 4-0) past Dickinson 72-65.

Four of Bridgewater State's starters scored double-figures and the Bears nipped No. 18 Williams 61-60. Megan Boutilette led the way with 12 points and 11 boards. Albright surprised crosstown rival Alvernia 62-60 as the Lions finished the game on a 20-2 run.
