Pitt-Bradford has named Patrick Daniel as the new head coach of
the Panthers women’s basketball team. Daniel spent the last
season as an assistant coach at Kenyon.
"We are very excited to have Patrick join our staff,” said
Lori Mazza, director of athletics. “He brings a new energy
that I think will appeal to everyone: players, recruits, alumni,
faculty and staff. He believes in the Division III philosophy and
cares about the success of his players both on and off the
court."
Daniel replaces Molly Brennan, who coached for two years and compiled a record of 26-26 before being hired as an assistant coach at Division II St. Edward's. He will be UPB's fifth coach in eight seasons. The Panthers were 11-15 last season.
“I am very excited and really look forward to being an
active member of the Pitt-Bradford community,” said Daniel.
“I cannot wait to talk with my new players, meet with faculty
and staff and begin the process of working towards our women's
basketball program being successful in the classroom, on the
basketball court, and in the community.”
In one season with Kenyon, Daniel helped guide the Ladies to a
19-8 record and the semifinals of the North Coast Athletic
Conference tournament. The 19 wins were the most since the 2007-08
season, and he coached three NCAC all-conference selections,
including a D3hoops.com All-Great Lakes Region third-team
pick.
Prior to joining Kenyon, Daniel was as an assistant coach at St.
Mary’s (Ind.), from 2008-11. In three seasons, he helped
direct the women’s basketball team to a record of 50-31 and
three consecutive appearances in the Michigan Intercollegiate
Athletic Association conference tournament.
In his final season with the St. Mary’s Belles, he served as
the interim coach for the team’s first six games while the
head coach was out on maternity leave. Daniel led St. Mary’s
to a 5-1 start and the first tip-off tournament title in school
history. The Belles went on to win a school-record 18 games that
season. He coached seven MIAA all-conference selections while at
St. Mary’s, including the 2008-09 Defensive Player of the
Year, and guided the Belles to an upset of the No. 1 team in NCAA
Division III in his first season.
Daniel served as the NCAA site representative for the first and
second rounds of the 2011 NCAA Division III women’s
basketball championships. He also has a strong background in
student affairs, serving as the director of student activities at
St. Mary’s, Towson (2007-08), and Western Michigan (2004-07).
While at Western Michigan, he also served as the associate director
of facilities and programs and assistant director of intramural
sports and recreation programs.
Daniel graduated from Towson in 1997 with a bachelor’s
degree in physical education, and he earned a master’s degree
in recreation and sport sciences with a concentration in recreation
studies from Ohio University in 1998.
