Stu Engen, hired as men's basketball coach at Northland earlier in the offseason, is leaving to pursue an athletic director position at North Dakota State College of Science, a junior college. Engen joined Northland on April 23 after a national candidate search.

He was replacing Rob Robinson, who compiled a 45-156 record (.224) in eight seasons.

“Northland is focused on its students and my first commitment now is to our men's basketball program and our players,” said Bill Wilson, Northland athletic director. “I've assured them we are already moving quickly and with great care to identify and hire a new coach who is also well qualified to lead our men's basketball program.

“Northland is very fortunate to have attracted a pool of over 162 candidates and we still have a number of very well-qualified coaches who were of great interest to the hiring committee in our initial selection process.  We are confident of our ability to fill the vacant position with a very well qualified candidate in the coming weeks.”

The school's announcement was made May 25. No new hire has been announced.
