Lee McKinney's long battle with cancer took another turn as his Fontbonne team played at Greenville without him on Wednesday night.

It ended a streak of more than 1,300 career games without missing one.

McKinney, who is a two-time cancer survivor, was admitted to St. Luke's Hospital, suffering from malnutrition and a collapsed lung, according to his son, Denny. He has coached at Fontbonne since 1988 and has won more than 500 career games as a collegiate coach.

Sources tell D3hoops.com that McKinney was planning to announce his coaching retirement within the upcoming week.
