A last-ditch rally came up literally inches short as No. 12 St. Norbert fell to No. 10 Augustana 57-56 in a battle of nationally ranked teams in the title game of St. Norbert's Nicolet National Bank Holiday Tournament.
The Green Knights, ranked No. 12 by D3hoops.com, fell to 8-2 on the year. Augustana, ranked No. 10, remained unbeaten at 10-0.
Ferrum's men got 23 points from Keith Crump and 21 from Derek Mitchell and improved to 10-0 in beating Covenant 73-59, while Manhattanville got off to its best 10-game start in program history, moving to 9-1 with a 53-50 win against York (N.Y.). No. 11 Randolph-Macon rallied from a 10-point deficit to hold off Hood 56-46.
In Thursday's women's games, No. 9 UW-Stevens Point got 20 from Britta Petersen and beat No. 18 Puget Sound 85-61 on the road. The WIAC doubled its pleasure with No. 17 UW-Whitewater handling No. 14 George Fox 73-56. Dana Thompson scored 24 points as the Warhawks led by as many as 22 points. Chapman improved to 10-3, defeating No. 23 UW-La Crosse 57-56 at Occidental.
St. Norbert finished the D3hoops.com Classic with a second win in Las Vegas, defeating Kenyon 50-45 despite shooting just 27 percent from the floor.
Molly Martin scored 15 but it was a pair of free throws by Torin Franz that gave Hanover its final margin in a 71-70 win against UW-Eau Claire at Wittenberg's tournament. The Panthers improved to 10-0.
No. 15 Illinois Wesleyan finally got to the East Coast, but the Titans' trip was hardly done. Illinois Wesleyan needed nearly four hours to travel by bus from the team hotel to Baruch but beat the Bearcats 75-71.
