Colorado College scored a stunning upset for Division III by beating Division I Air Force 60-57 in overtime at Clune Arena.
The Tigers stayed close to the Falcons until Air Force pulled out to an eight-point lead at 51-43 with just under six minutes left in regulation. Colorado College responded with a 10-0 run over the next five minutes. Air Force made two free throws to force overtime where the Tigers held the Falcons to just one field goal. Full story
“They threw us off a little bit with the zones they played,” said assistant head coach Drew Long of the Tigers’ 1-3-1 defense on AM 740 KVOR in Colorado Springs. “All the credit goes out to Colorado College.”
Brady Ohlsen scored 14 points and grabbed nine boards and Nick Rose added 18 points in 42 minutes for Colorado College. The Tigers were picked second, along with Austin, in the Western Division in the SCAC preseason poll.
Division III lost all 58 games against Division I opponents in the 2009-2010 regular season. The last time an SCAC team defeated a Division I opponent was Dec. 6, 1997 when Sewanee topped Belmont 74-69. Air Force beat Colorado College 82-31 in the teams' last meeting before tonight on Dec. 9, 2006.
