1991 Division III men's basketball tournament

1991 UW-Platteville MBB team UW-Platteville lived up to its Pioneers nickname by running the table in its first appearance in the NCAA Tournament, defeating Franklin and Marshall 81-74 at Wittenberg to win the 1991 Division III national championship.

The championship game was a seesaw battle. The turning point came in the second half, when, with 6:57 remaining the Pioneers took a 62-55 lead on a 3-pointer by Robby Jeter and held off the Diplomats.

Each team had four players in double figures and hit better than 50 percent from the field. Senior Shawn Frison led the Pioneers with 20 points. Franklin and Marshall's David Wilding led all scorers with 25 points and was the game's leading rebounder with 11.

The 81 points was the fewest the Pioneers scored in their run to the title, after they averaged 100.8 points in their first four NCAA Tournament games. The second-place finish was the best ever for F&M. The Diplomats finished third in 1979.
