    BOSTON, Mass. – Sophomore guard Cassandra Stapelfeld (Brookline, N.H.) scored 25 points, including 12 in the fourth quarter to help the Simmons University women's basketball team erase an 11-point second-half deficit and come away with a 70-62 victory over visiting Johnson & Wales University this afternoon in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference contest at Moore Gymnasium on the campus of Simmons in Boston, Mass. The Sharks finish their season with a 7-18 mark, including 4-8 in league play, while the Wildcats fall to 6-19 and 5-7.

    BOSTON, Mass. – Senior point guard Kelsi McNamara (West Newton, Mass.) scored 19 points to lead the nationally-ranked number 11 Saint Joseph’s College (Maine) women’s basketball team over host Simmons University, 72-45, this evening in Great Northeast Athletic Conference action at Moore Gymnasium on the campus of Simmons in Boston, Mass. The Monks, who are ranked the same by both the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association and d3hoops.com, improve to a perfect 18-0 and 6-0 in league play and have won 24 consecutive regular-season contests over conference foes. The Sharks fall to 4-14 and 1-5.

    BOSTON, Mass. – Senior forward Lauren Brandau (Madison, Conn.) and sophomore guard Cassandra Stapelfeld (Brookline, N.H.) combined for 40 points to lead the Simmons University women’s basketball team over visiting Lasell College this evening in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference season opener at Moore Gymnasium in Boston, Mass. The Sharks improve to 4-9 overall and 1-0 in league play, while the Lasers fall to 5-8 and 0-1.

The Sharks win their second straight game and improve to 3-7 on the season, while the Lyons fall to 0-11.

    BROOKLYN, N.Y. -- Sophomore guard Cassandra Stapelfeld (Brookline, N.H.) and senior guard Francesca Corsinetti (Johnston, R.I.) became the first teammates in school history to score 30 or more points each in a game in leading the Simmons University women's basketball team to a 102-44 victory over host Medgar Evers College this afternoon in the consolation game of the 20th Annual Dr. Betty Shabazz Memorial Tournament at Cougars Cave in Brooklyn, N.Y. The point total broke a school record, eclipsing the former mark set when the Sharks defeated Becker College, 101-38, on November 23, 2002. Simmons improves to 1-5 on the season, while the Cougars fall to 0-6.

    BOSTON, Mass. – Senior forward Presley Silva (Wilmington, Mass.) posted a monster double-double of 21 points and 16 rebounds and became the school’s career steals leader in the final home game of her career to lead the Simmons College women’s basketball team over visiting University of Saint Joseph (Conn.), 70-57, this evening in Great Northeast Athletic Conference action at Moore Gymnasium in Boston, Mass. The Sharks improve to 3-18 overall and 3-12 in league play, while the Blue Jays fall to 8-15 and 3-12.

    BOSTON, Mass. – Sophomore guard Francesca Corsinetti (Johnston, R.I.) netted a career-high 19 points to lead the Simmons College women's basketball team to a 77-53 victory this evening over Anna Maria College in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference contest at Moore Gymnasium in Boston, Mass. The Sharks win their third straight game and improve to 4-5 overall and a perfect 4-0 in league play, while the AMCATS fall to 2-10 and 0-5.

    Simmons hired former FDU-Florham assistant Michael Williams as its new head basketball coach. Williams was part of Marc Mitchell's FDU staff when the Devils won the national championship two seasons ago.
