After Simmons decided to disband its women's basketball program, the Sharks' head coach Michael Williams found a new home at City College of New York.
CCNY Director of Athletics Lydia V. Travis announced Clores' hiring on Tuesday, July 2.
"I am pleased to welcome Coach Michael Williams to the CCNY family," said Travis in the release. "In addition to his demonstrated success on the court and limitless investment in the total experience of his players, I'm thrilled for Michael to bring his high energy and sports performance training background to City College athletics."
Williams spent the last three seasons as the head coach at Simmons University where he went 18-53. In April Simmons announced it was discontinuing its women's basketball program because of inadequate participation.
The hire brings the New York City native back to his hometown. Williams was previously the head coach at Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, which will be an exploratory member of NCAA Division III in the upcoming season. Williams also spent three seasons as the lead assistant coach at CCNY's conference rival John Jay.
Before taking over the Pratt program, Williams was an assistant to Marc Mitchell at FDU-Florham during the Devils' undefeated run to the NCAA Division III title in 2014 and their trip to the NCAA Tournament sectional finals the following season.
"The [CCNY] program has a rich history of success, and I'm excited to work with the athletic department and the campus community to build upon the program's accomplishments on and off the court," said Williams in the release. "Academic excellence, creating a well-rounded experience, graduation and competitiveness at the conference and national levels will be our program's goal every year."
Williams replaces Jamie Angeli who went 66-68 in five seasons at CCNY and won CUNYAC coach of the year honors in 2016. Angeli remains at the College as the Associate Athletic Director for Marketing.
CCNY went 16-11, 10-6 in the CUNYAC last season.
