  • University of Dubuque Claims American Rivers Conference Tournament Championship

    The University of Dubuque men's basketball team played one of their best defensive games of the season to capture the American Rivers Conference (A-R-C) Tournament Championship to earn the automatic berth into the NCAA Division III Men's Basketball Championships. This is head coach Robbie Sieverding's third journey to post-season play and the school's seventh time. The 2022 A-R-C champions thwarted off the tenacious Beavers and captured the game 71-52.

    Nebraska Wesleyan, the lone remaining dual member of the NAIA and NCAA Division III, is giving up its NAIA affiliation effective July 2016 and joining the Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference that fall.
  • University of Dubuque Spartans Win IIAC Tournament 81-73

    The University of Dubuque Men's basketball team will advance into the 2015 NCAA Division III National Tournament next week after a 81-73 victory over the Wartburg College Knights on Saturday evening on Jon Davison Court in Stoltz Sports Center. It marks the second time in three years the Spartans will play in the NCAA Tournament after claiming the IIAC Tournament title in 2012-13.
  • Upset Thursday Leaves Spartans Hosting Tournament Championship Saturday

    The University of Dubuque men's basketball needed some help on Thursday night to return to the warm confines of Jon Davison Court in Stoltz Sports Center for a championship game of the the 2015 IIAC Men's Basketball Tournament. UD upset #2 seed Coe College Kohawks 71-59 to finish their part of upset Thursday. #5-seed Wartburg playing in a hostile Siebens Center against the #1 seed Buena Vista University Beavers completed the upset by dropping the Beavers 93-88 in overtime. The #3-seeded Spartans will now host the #5 seeded Wartburg Knights on Saturday, tentatively scheduled for a 7:00 p.m. tip-off.
  • Men's Basketball Advance to IIAC Tourney Semifinals

    The University of Dubuque men's basketball team advanced out of the first round of the 2015 Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (IIAC) Tournament on Tuesday evening with a 92-74 victory over the Luther College Norse on Jon Davison Court in Stoltz Sports Center. The Spartans trailed for most of the opening half before fighting their way back into the game in the second half by holding the Norse to 32% shooting from the field in the final 20 minutes of play.
  • Spartans Win on Senior Day, Earn #3 Seed in IIAC Tourney

    The University of Dubuque needed some help from the only team to have swept them this season to capture the #2 seed in the 2015 IIAC Tournament. In front of a near capacity crowd on Senior Day the Spartans learned their fate before their dominating 77-63 victory on Jon Davison Court in Stoltz Sports Center. Buena Vista lost to Coe in Cedar Rapids which knotted the Spartans in the standing with the Kohawks (10-4). Coe held the edge in the tie break after splitting in league play with IIAC champion Buena Vista.
  • Spartans Upended by League Champion Beavers

    The University of Dubuque men's basketball held the IIAC Championship finish in their hands on Wednesday, but it was a hot shooting Buena Vista University Beaver team which snatched it away for their own with a 94-80 victory over the Spartans. BV jumped out to an early lead and everytime the Spartans rallied to within a handful of points, BV responded with a deep three pointer.

    The University of Dubuque and two other men's teams have locked in their 2015 IIAC Men's Basketball Tournament berth, but the final week of the IIAC race will provide excitement for all teams involved. The Spartans fate is held in their own hands when they host league leading Buena Vista on Wednesday night in Stoltz Sports Center. UD remains just a game out of the lead, a victory over BV and the Spartans could add a championship banner on the wall.
  • Men's Basketball Earn IIAC Tourney Berth with Win Over Storm

    The University of Dubuque men's basketball team locked in a berth in the 2015 Iowa Conference Tournament after a 78-65 road victory on Wednesday night. The Spartans maintained within striking distance of the league leader and received some help from Central College after they beat Coe 78-75 to give the Spartans sole possession of second place with just three league contests remaining.
  • Spartans Bounce Past Kohawks in 87-66 Win

    The University of Dubuque men's basketball team gained ground on Saturday and moved to within a game of the Iowa Conference leading Buena Vista Beavers with a dominating 87-66 victory over the Coe College Kohawks on Jon Davison Court in Stoltz Sports Center on Saturday. The Spartans jumped out to an opening 10-1 margin and never looked back as they moved to a tie for second place of the IIAC.
  • Hot Shooting Men's Basketball Sizzle in Pella

    The University of Dubuque men's basketball squad remained within striking distance of the league leader by sizzling on the road Wednesday evening in a 105-62 victory over the Central College Dutch. The Spartans led 46-28 at halftime and would shoot over 70% from the three point area, sinking 12-17 attempts.
  • Men's Basketball Stops Duhawks Offense

    The University of Dubuque men's basketball team led for 33:38 of the 40 minutes on Saturday and dominated the Iowa Conference match-up over the Loras College Duhawks 83-57. The Spartans led by 17 points at halftime and extended that lead to 27 points in the second half to improve to 15-4 overall and 6-3 in the IIAC and moved to within two games of the conference lead.
  • Men's Basketball Suffers Loss at Coe

    The University of Dubuque men's basketball team needed a road win Wednesday night, but the host Coe College Kohawks wanted to maintain their spot at the top of the Iowa Conference. The Spartans rallied from a slow start, foul trouble, and cold shooting, but fell short to the Kohawks 63-69 to suffer their third IIAC loss of the season.
  • Spartans Cruise to 96-60 Victory over the Storm

    The University of Dubuque men's basketball team never trailed on Saturday against the visiting Simpson College Storm. UD led 15- 3 in the first five minutes of Saturday's game and blew through the Storm 96-60. Saturday kicked off the 100th anniversary of McCormick Gymnasium, the former host of Spartan athletics for over 90+ years.
  • Men's Basketball Defend Home Court, Cruise to 67-55 Victory over Duhawks

    The University of Dubuque men's basketball team bounced back after Saturday's road loss on Wednesday evening by defeating Loras College 67-55 on Jon Davison Court in Stoltz Sports Center. Mediacom taped the game for replay the last week of January for the fans in Dubuque.
  • Men's Basketball Lose at Buena Vista

    The University of Dubuque men's basketball team led by a point at halftime 46-45, but would be out scored in the final 20 minutes 40-32 as they dropped a road conference contest on Saturday afternoon to the Buena Vista University Beavers 78-85. The Beavers finished with four out of five starters in double digit scoring despite the Spartans holding the lead for 21:07.
  • Men's Basketball Capture Game at Free Throw Line

    The University of Dubuque men's basketball team sank 5-6 free throws in the final 33 seconds to capture a hard fought Iowa Conference road victory over the Luther College Norse 68-65. Andre Norris became the 23rd Spartan to eclipse the 1000-point career mark (1,025 points) after he led the Spartans with a game high 31 points and 11 rebounds. It was the second time Norris has scored over 30 points in 2014-15.
  • Men's Basketball Stunned at Home

    The University of Dubuque men's basketball team lost just their second game of the season on Saturday. In front of a large crowd in Stoltz Sports Center, the Spartans dropped the conference match-up to the Wartburg College Knights 63-74. The Spartans led the game for over seven minutes, but the Knights would lead by as many as 15 points in the second half to improve to 2-0 in league play.
  • Norris Leads Spartans in IIAC Season Opener

    The University of Dubuque conference season opener started a bit slow for the Spartans as the visiting Central College Dutch jumped out to a 12 point lead in the opening five minutes of action. The Spartans would rally back to capture a halftime 35-32 lead. The Spartans stretched out their lead to 16 points as time wound down for the 79-63 victory on Jon Davison Court in Stoltz Sports Center.
  • Early Christmas Gift as Spartans Move to 10-1 Overall

    The University of Dubuque men's basketball team captured their tenth win of the 2014-15 season and finished 2014 with a 10-1 overall record after a 58-51 victory over Bridgewater College Eagles. The Spartans will enjoy Christmas before returning to campus to prepare for the Iowa Conference opener on January 7 when the Spartans host the Central College Dutch at 8:00 p.m.
