Piedmont Ends Scots' Winning Streak

DEMOREST, Ga. - After an impressive first-quarter effort saw them up by six, Maryville couldn't quite match the Piedmont pace and eventually faltered 67-52.

The Scots built up a nice 12-6 lead after the first period ended. Emma Huskey garnered six of the team's points in the quarter and amassed 16 points on the night to lead the team. She also led the team in rebounding with six. Those 16 points are her second-most this season (18 is her season and career high). No other Scot scored in double figures, but Ella Haney scored nine, and Emily Allen and Ella Tharpe both had eight.

Despite her best efforts and playing all but three minutes in the game, Tharpe's six-game double-digit scoring streak also ended against Piedmont after having averaged over 12 points in the team's last six games.

MC's three-point shooting woes also reemerged against the Lions, shooting a mere 2-13 (15.4%) from beyond the arc. The Scots were also out-rebounded 46-31 and were outscored in bench points 25-11. Piedmont blocked six of Maryville's shots, a big reason why MC couldn't keep up offensively.

Reagan Brown and Halle Kitchen were the Scots' other scorers on the night, with five and six points respectively.

Maryville was outscored by nine and eight points in the second and fourth quarters, suppressing the lead that the Scots built up early. Despite their best efforts to come back, going on a 7-0 run in the third and leading for a total of 13:46 in the first half, MC couldn't overcome Piedmont as the Lions improve to 10-2 in conference play (the first team in the conference to reach the 10-win mark) and 14-7 overall. Maryville falls to 6-4 in conference play and 7-12 overall, tied for third place in the CCS standings with Belhaven.

Next up for the Scots will be a Friday evening match-up with Huntingdon (4-4, 8-9) in the Cooper Athletic Center at 4 p.m.
