Harrer Earns 700th Career Win, No. 14 BW Women's Basketball Finishes Strong Against Wilmington

WILMINGTON, Ohio – Baldwin Wallace University women's basketball head coach Cheri Harrer earned her 700th career win as the No. 14 nationally ranked BW women's basketball team defeated Wilmington College in an Ohio Athletic Conference matchup by a final score of 68-52 on Hermann Court inside Fred Raizk Arena.

Coach Harrer, in her thirty-fifth season, becomes one of just nine women's basketball coaches to reach 700 NCAA Division III wins and currently sits at sixth in wins among active Division III coaches. Earlier this season, Harrer became the All-Time Winningest basketball coach in Ohio Athletic Conference history with her 693rd win.

BW Leaders (12-1, 6-0 OAC)

  • Senior All-OAC guard Emily Irwin (Pickerington/Pataskala Watkins Memorial) scored 10 points adding one rebound and one assist
  • Senior All-OAC guard/forward Caely Ressler (Napoleon) led the way with 12 points and had six rebounds, two steals, an assist, and a block
  • Senior All-OAC forward Bella Vaillant (Perrysburg) recorded a game-high nine rebounds and added six points and an assist
  • Sophomore guard Laura McCoy (Newton Falls/Garrettsville Garfield) finished with nine points, a rebound, and a block

Wilmington Leaders (4-9, 1-5 OAC)

  • Senior guard ZahKyria Walker finished with a game-high 21 points
  • Sophomore forward Natalie Rupp led the Quakers with eight rebounds
  • Senior guard Cassidy Lovett tied a team-high two assists and added six points

1st Quarter (WC 16-14)

  • BW got out to an early 7-2 lead before the Quakers closed the quarter on a 14-7 run
  • The Yellow Jackets shot only 30% from the floor but still managed to keep it a one-possession game by owning the boards and winning the turnover battle

2nd Quarter (BW 30-29)

  • Both teams traded baskets as five of the first half's eight ties came in the second period
  • A pair of free throws from sophomore guard Kayla Jones (Grove City) gave the Brown and Gold a one-point lead at the half

3rd Quarter (BW 45-39)

  • Ressler heaved up a three to beat the buzzer and to give the Jackets a six-point lead going into the fourth
  • Vaillant grabbed three offensive rebounds and one defensive in part of BW's 13 total rebounds

4th Quarter (BW 68-52)

  • Wilmington opened the quarter with a bucket but the Brown and Gold rattled off 18 straight to take a commanding 63-41 lead with four minutes left to play
  • The BW defense locked down the Quakers to force 10 turnovers and to hold the opposition to 28.6% shooting

The Yellow Jackets are back in action on Wednesday, January 15 as they travel to Alliance to take on the University of Mount Union in an Ohio Athletic Conference matchup at 7 p.m. in Timken Gymnasium inside the McPherson Academic and Athletic Complex.
