FREDERICK, Md. – After a close first quarter, the Blazer aggressiveness around the basket was out dueled by the Red Devils ball movement and success around the arc to pull away from the Blazers in the 59-43 loss in Woodsboro Bank Arena on Saturday afternoon.
Inside the Box Score
Mari Faust (Burke, VA/Lake Braddock) scored 11 with a pair of steals.
Tiffany Manning (Randallstown, Md./Western Tech) grabbed six boards and had two assists.
Kourtney Johnson (Silver Spring, Md./Paint Branch High School) scored seven points and swatted two shots.
How it Happened
The Blazers shot efficiently in the first finding Aliyah Taylor (Randallstown, Md./Pikesville High School) down low twice and before Johnson had her layup go down and in to put the Blazers ahead 12-10. Hood made five of their first nine shots and were fouled eight times in the first half.
Dickinson's Mia Chapman matched up well against the Blazers and went 3-for-4 in the Hood's zone inside of the arc. This created opportunity in the second for Hood to collapse inside on posts but then the ball would find a red jersey around the arc and individuals like Clair Marion to put the ball at the bottom of the bucket.
With most success found near the Basket, the three three-pointers made by the Red Devils created a deficit and opened up the offense to attack via paint or perimeter hence the 21-8 run for Dickinson in the second quarter.
With time winding down in the fourth, Faust made a push to close the deficit on both ends of the floor. Faust pushed the ball down the court and made a tough bucket while running past the basket and was fouled for the three-point play. In the final seconds, McGrath coughed up the rock and Faust took her gathering step towards the basket and got that one to go as well.
